Time warp a year and half in the future. I am now a sophomore at Deerfield Academy, entering into the Spring term.
Things here are pretty amazing, like how we have a hypnotist come in and put to sleep 20 kids in front of the entire school.
Or who there was an A Cappella festival at the school last weekend! It was amazing. Groups came form all over MA, even a them called the Logarithms from MIT.
But of course the most amazing thing about Deerfield is the dorm life. My hall mates and I live together, study together, laugh together, eat together, and get into trouble together. One of the girls on my hall is from Russia, another from Canada and in true spirit is a wonderful Hockey player, and finally a girl who is absolutely obsessed with One Direction.
The daily life here is quiet but busy.
I get up at 7 to go to the dinning hall to get breakfast and study for and 1 1/2 hours and then head to latin class. Then math in the Koch Center which is a beautiful math and science building with a cafe and comfy corners in which to do homework.
Unlike St. Andrew, here i have two periods of free time; third and fourth, which brings me up to lunch. Lunch is a fancy affair. It is sit down for the entire school and every student is assigned a table where they sit for about 4-5 weeks. Each table has a first and second waiter. the first waiter sets the table and gets the food and the second waiter clears the table after the meal is finished. I personal like 2nd waiting because it takes less time and can be finished before we are excused to our afternoon classes.
In the afternoon I head back over to the Koch center for Chemistry. Chemistry, I find, is a disappointment. Perhaps it is my teacher. At St. Andrew I grew accustomed to a science teacher who made any science w took interesting and fun. Or, perhaps it is the fact that I haven't made anything blow up yet. All we do is make things boil and take weights.
Acting is by far my best class. We have a british acting teacher who was at one time a very famous director. We have done scenes from Macbeth to a modern play called Proof to a completely silent production. This year the Arts building is being renovated so we have be shuffled off into an ancient white church a little way off campus.
My final class of the day is English. I love English. The class is discussion based so opinions that would normally be called overbearing now only get you a good grade. We started with Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde moved on to Mary Reilly, another book about Mr. Hyde, then to Macbeth. During that reading my entire class was given a wonderful opportunity to go see a production of that amazing play. I hated it. It was dark, glum, and boring. I found Hamlet, which I saw last year back home, much more funny. My favorite book, remaining true to form, is Pride and Prejudice. This book initiated many heated discussions.
That's all for now, I am being summoned to Study Hall.
